Is it just me, or have you ever felt this way?
You sit quietly.
You try to pray.
And all you hear is silence.
Maybe you wonder:
Am I doing this right?
Why can’t I find the words?
Does God even hear me?
Sweet friend, if prayer feels intimidating, confusing, or distant right now, you are not failing at faith. I truly believe we all walk through seasons when we feel far from God.
Many Christian women quietly carry the idea that prayer must sound polished, spiritual, or impressive. But God has never asked for perfect words. I remember even changing my tone of voice when praying… as if that made it more “official.” (haha)
If we look closely, this struggle often comes during battles in our lives. Scripture is full of stories like this , Job being one of them, seasons when the heart is heavy and words feel hard.
Prayer can feel difficult when:
• you feel spiritually dry or exhausted
• you don’t know what to say
• pain feels too deep for words
• you feel unworthy or distant from God
• life feels overwhelming
• and for moms… sheer exhaustion can do it
Even the most faithful women experience seasons like this.
Scripture reminds us:
“The Lord is close to all who call on Him, yes, to all who call on Him in truth.” — Psalm 145:18 (NLT)
Notice this: He responds to truth, not eloquence. (Thank You, Lord.)
Sometimes showing up with raw honesty is enough:
“Lord, I’m tired.”
“Lord, I’m afraid.”
“Lord, help me.”
God is not waiting for perfect words. Prayer is not a performance. It is not a speech. It is not a test you pass or fail.
Prayer is relationship.
“When you pray, don’t babble on and on… Your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask Him.” — Matthew 6:7–8 (NLT)
You are not informing God. (Oh my, and it has been taking me a while to realize this truth).
You are inviting Him into your heart.
And sometimes the most powerful prayer is a whisper:
“Lord… I need You.”
“Lord, cover me with Your love.”
You are not alone when words won’t come. There are days when grief, stress, motherhood, marriage struggles, or exhaustion leave us speechless before God.
In those moments, heaven is not silent.
“The Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words.” — Romans 8:26 (NLT)
Even your silence is understood.
Even your tears are translated into prayer.
I have always been in awe of that. I can seat quietly when word won’t came, and He understand the intentions of my heart. Doesn’t that encourages you?
Recognizing that we are struggling in prayer is not failure, it can be the beginning of deeper intimacy.
So here are a few gentle things that have helped me (and I’m still learning):
How to Grow in Prayer with Focus & Faith
Before we begin, let’s remember:
Prayer is not about perfection. It is about presence.
1️⃣ Start with honesty, not performance
God welcomes your real emotions: confusion, fatigue, fear, even doubt.
It took me yearssss to learn this. I thought I should only express gratitude (and yes, gratitude matters), but honesty matters too. One day my husband told me, “You need to get real with God.” Ouch… and also true.
“Pour out your heart to Him, for God is our refuge.” — Psalm 62:8 (NLT)
Focus: authentic connection
Faith step: begin with, “Lord, this is what I’m feeling today…”
2️⃣ Keep prayer simple and consistent
Prayer does not need to be long to be powerful.
There’s a book called Hey God by Frank Foglio, where he shares how his mother would simply say, “Hey, God,” and He heard her.
Jesus often withdrew to quiet places to pray… simple, focused moments with the Father.
Focus: daily connection over lengthy words
Faith step: set aside, at least, three quiet minutes each day to speak with God.
3️⃣ Use Scripture when words feel hard
When your heart feels empty, borrow the language of the Bible.
Pray the Psalms. Whisper promises. Rest in truth.
“Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.” — Psalm 119:105 (NLT)
Focus: let God’s Word guide your prayers
Faith step: pray one verse slowly and personally.
Prayer is an invitation, not an obligation.
God is not disappointed in your quietness.
He is not frustrated by your uncertainty.
He is not measuring your spiritual vocabulary.
He is inviting us closer.
Prayer is where striving ends and relationship begins.
A Prayer for the Woman Who Doesn’t Know How to Pray
Lord,
Sometimes I don’t have the words.
Sometimes I feel distant and unsure.
Teach me that You welcome my honesty more than perfection.
Quiet my fears and draw me close to Your heart.
Help me rest in Your presence, even in silence.
Amen.
You are already heard.
If you feel unsure about prayer today, remember:
God hears the whisper.
He understands the silence.
He receives the tears.
He treasures your presence.
You don’t need perfect words to reach heaven.
You only need an open heart.
Pause & Reflect
✨ What has made prayer feel difficult for me in this season?
✨ How can I create one small, peaceful moment to connect with God today?
If this encouraged your heart, share it with a friend who may need gentle reassurance today.
With love,
Priscila 🤍
